Everyone remembers the excitement that Barack Obama elicited when he announced his presidential candidacy, back in February 2007. Although many Democrat hopefuls entered the presidential primaries, we also remembered how the race narrowed down to him and Senator Hillary Clinton, before she conceded defeat in June 2008.
Barack Obama's popularity skyrocketed. According to the CQ Politics issue of February 2008, Obama's campaign established several fundraising records. A crowd of over 75,000 people cheered his acceptance speech in August, while 38 million people watched around the world. He conducted his campaign as a true superstar, and after he made history in November, his approval ratings soared to 70%, according to Gallup.
